Shashi Sharma Majgainya is a distinguished legal practitioner, policy innovator, and globally engaged development professional with over 15 years of leadership in youth empowerment, environmental sustainability, and community resilience. As the former Central President of the National Federation of Youth NGOs Nepal (NFYN) and a registered Advocate with the Nepal Bar Council, Shashi now serves as a Technical Advisor, uniquely bridging the gap between grassroots mobilization and national-level strategic policy. His work is characterized by the integration of legal rigor with development strategy, ensuring that youth voices are not just heard but are codified into the country’s legislative and developmental frameworks.
His expertise in Policy and Program is demonstrated through his instrumental role in shifting project-based interventions into institutionalized governance systems. He notably led the national-level policy reform process for Nepal’s New National Youth Policy 2082, facilitating inclusive, multi-stakeholder consultations across government and civil society. Within the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC), he provides technical oversight to the Partnership for Healthy Cities initiative—a high-profile collaboration with Bloomberg Philanthropies, the World Health Organization (WHO), and Vital Strategies. Following his participation in the U.S. EPA National Ambient Air Monitoring Conference in New Orleans (2024), he successfully launched Kathmandu’s real-time air quality monitoring system, driving evidence-based municipal planning and integrating sensor-based data into formal policy.
His expertise in Partnership and Sustainability focuses on building and managing long-term collaborations with prestigious international agencies, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) Japan, JISP, Stromme Foundation,WWF and the U.S. EPA. Shashi oversaw the successful completion and institutionalization of the Community-Based Disaster Response and Management initiative. He currently guides the implementation of Volunteer Action Plans for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) across multiple wards of Kathmandu, ensuring local ownership, institutional continuity, and long-term disaster preparedness. By fostering high-level partnerships across government agencies, international NGOs, and the private sector, he continues to drive systemic change in the fields of climate change, public health, and sustainable development.
Shashi holds a robust multidisciplinary academic portfolio, including Master’s Degrees in Political Science and English Literature, complemented by Bachelor’s Degrees in Law (LLB) and Rural Development from Tribhuvan University. This diverse background enables him to navigate complex legal landscapes while championing inclusive, informed leadership. Through his strategic role at NFYN, Shashi remains dedicated to empowering thousands of young leaders nationwide and implementing policies that deliver tangible impact both locally and globally.
